Dr Tim Carruthers

Dr Carruthers was the first Cardiologist to commence practice in Far North Queensland. He transferred to Cairns from Sydney in early 1989 and commenced in private practice and also as a visiting specialist to Cairns Base Hospital at that time. He became the first Director of Cardiology at Cairns Base Hospital. He retired from his public hospital commitments in late 2002.
Dr Carruthers graduated from the University of Sydney Medical School and he also has Fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Over the years, he has held various appointments with the QLD branch of the Heart Foundation as an advisor.
Dr Carruthers has special interests across the whole spectrum of non-invasive clinical cardiology and believes in a holistic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of adult cardiovascular disease. Dr Carruthers has a special interest in Echocardiography and follow-up of Pacemakers and Implantable Defibrillators.
